ComputerXplorers Bardon Group franchise secures slice of £600,000 funding

ComputerXplorers SE Scotland is one of 12 organisations to benefit from a £600,000 fund set aside by the City of Edinburgh Council for holiday and weekend clubs for children and young people with disabilities.

The technology education franchise will run a Tech Club enabling young people on the autistic spectrum to get hands-on with everything from Lego Robotics and Minecraft to coding and animation, with sessions tailored to the individual needs and abilities of the children. The goal is to inspire them, encouraging an interest in computing and technology in a safe and supportive environment.

Lynne Kerr, owner and manager of ComputerXplorers SE Scotland says the club will be an opportunity to socialise and have fun, while learning new skills.

“Getting creative with technology is a fantastic way of inspiring young people with additional support needs to try something different, discover new interests and be part of a social group. Participating in the club will help improve children’s self-esteem and confidence.

“While our main focus is technology, they will also have the opportunity to make new friends and develop communication skills. We see children being inspired by getting hands-on with tech every day and can’t wait to bring that opportunity to more young people with the support of this initiative.”

The funding will run from October 2018 until March 2020.

ComputerXplorers provides quality technology education for children aged three to 13, and has 12 franchises in the UK. Its goal is to transform children from digital consumers to digital creators via holiday clubs, afterschool clubs and in-curriculum classes held at schools, preschools and other settings. Classes are linked to the national curriculum in England, the Curriculum for Excellence in Scotland and the national curriculum for Wales. ComputerXplorers is part of franchising specialist The Bardon Group.
