Post Office Franchise Battles Pitched

A steady stream of Post Office franchising stories have appeared this week. The latest is of plans to franchise Golders Green‘s crown post office which have been delayed, after the company due to take on the franchise failed to reach a final agreement with Post Office Ltd, it was announced on Monday.

Alex Galbinski reported yesterday that Tony Marsh, the Post Office Ltd network services manager, said it would continue to look at ways of running the Golders Green post office. Paper Wishes, a card and gift shop in Golders Green Road, had been in discussions to take over the post office from the branch in Finchley Road, and run it from their premises, but said it would no longer be progressing with these plans.

Comments from local councillors have been varied, but the heat was turned up by Neil Walsh, secretary of the north-west London branch of the Communication Workers’ Union. Walsh had called for a boycott of Paper Wishes amid opposition to the plan, said the delay in franchising the amenity was good news for the community in Golders Green and also for the post office‘s staff.
