Top 10 tips to get the most out of a Franchise Exhibition

There is plenty of information on the internet about franchising, but it isn’t often you can meet leading franchise brands, get one-to-one advice from industry experts and watch a packed programme of free talks – all under one roof!

The British & International Franchise Exhibition returns to Olympia London on 9 & 10 June to give you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of franchising.

The event will showcase a wide variety of franchise opportunities. With exhibitors representing sectors ranging from food & beverage to care, education to fitness, and investment levels starting from less than £10,000, there is a franchise to suit all budgets and ambitions.

Here are our top 10 tips to help you make the most of your time:

    1. Familiarise yourself with what’s going on

Browse the event website in advance to see who’s exhibiting, the seminar programme and the free advice features on offer to help you kickstart your franchise journey. Don’t forget to book your free ticket in advance for fast-track entry.

    2. Plan your time

The key to maximising your time at the event is planning your visit. You’ll have the opportunity to speak to representatives from franchise brands including McDonald’s, Tutor Doctor, Co-op, The Massage Company, Clip ‘n Climb and many more throughout both days of the event. Write a shortlist of brands you are particularly interested in.

    3. Ask the right questions

Have a think about specific questions you would like to ask franchisors before you arrive. Perhaps you want to learn more about brand culture, how quickly you can expect a return on your investment, or what ongoing support is offered? A list of questions will help you focus your research. Don’t forget to take notes on the day – it’s easy to forget who said what – and take contact details of those you would like to follow up with.

    4. First impressions count!

Don’t forget franchisors will be looking for the “right” people to partner with, so it is important you make a good first impression. Take the opportunity to sell yourself too. Why do you think you would be a good fit for their business? What about their franchise model particularly interests you? Do you have any relevant business experience or transferable skills that would make you a good fit?

    5. Network!

Choosing the right franchise is as much about the people involved as it is about the brand. Take full advantage of the opportunity to meet the people behind the brands, connect with industry experts and chat to like-minded entrepreneurs.

    6. Free educational seminars

Take advantage of free advice and guidance in the comprehensive seminar programme. Wherever you are on your franchise journey – from learning how the model works, to actively researching your investment options – the packed schedule of 50+ free talks has something to offer.

The line-up includes representatives from industry-leading brands, franchise experts and successful franchisees, alongside an exclusive series of educational seminars from the British Franchise Association (bfa). Friday’s visitors will also be treated to an unmissable keynote presentation by John Vincent, the co-founder of LEON, who will share his top tips for franchise entrepreneurs.

  • Expert advice

Get free, one-to-one advice from a range of industry experts. Learn more about your funding options from specialist lenders, get essential legal guidance and benefit from impartial advice from bfa representatives to help you make an informed decision about your future in franchising.

If you are a business owner thinking about franchising your business, there’s a wealth of information on offer. Enjoy a free appointment with a franchise consultant, attend free seminars and speak directly to the bfa to propel your franchise journey.

  • Pre-book a McDonald’s Insight Session

McDonald’s will be holding Insight Sessions for prospective franchisees at The Franchise Exhibitions. Hear from the McDonald’s team and gain unique insight into being part of one of the world’s biggest brands. Learn more about their first-class franchisee training programme – and find out if becoming a McDonald’s franchisee is right for you. Pre-booking is essential!

  • Pick up a copy of Business Franchise magazine

Free to all exhibition visitors, Business Franchise magazine contains the event’s official Show Guide. Within its pages, you will find a timetable, floorplan, and detailed exhibitor listings. You will also find invaluable advice to help you take your next steps after the event.

  • Be proactive after the exhibition

Franchisors will come away from the event with lots of potential franchisees to follow up with. If you are interested in a particular brand, be proactive and reach out to them to book a Discovery Day or a more in-depth meeting at their head office.
