Back in 1999, the owners of Barking Mad couldn’t find what they were looking for in terms of holiday care for their dog. Everything they came across seemed to be a traditional kennelling system, which wasn’t what they wanted. So, rather than keep searching, they started Barking Mad as an alternative to the kennel – there was, after all, a demand as they had discovered when they were looking for something themselves.
The idea was a hit and many people were more than happy for their pets to stay somewhere different to a traditional kennel. The idea is now an award-winning one (awards include the HSBC & British Franchise Association Franchisor of the Year 2013 and BFA Franchisee of the Year 2014).
Barking Mad is a clever concept – rather than using pet sitters or kennels, the dog is housed with a host family for the duration of its owner’s trip. The host will come and meet the owners and the dog, get to know their likes and dislikes, and introduce themselves. Then everyone can rest easy knowing that the dog is in safe and experienced hands. It can make all the difference to a holiday and really allow the pet owner to relax and unwind.
