York's ovens continue to sparkle thanks to local entrepreneur
York entrepreneur, Richard Wilks, is continuing in his quest to give York the cleanest ovens in Britain, after extending the licensing period of his oven valeting service.
Richard, 50, set up his Ovenu franchise in February 2003 after the shock- absorber factory he was working in closed down. Ovenu York became the first professional domestic oven cleaning business in the York and Harrogate area.
Since then he has cleaned more than 1,600 ovens in the York and Harrogate areas, delivering Ovenu’s environmentally friendly valeting service to around 1,400 customers.
His current franchise agreement is due to end on February 3, but Richard has been so impressed by Ovenu’s cleaning process and the results the business franchise model can achieve, that he has extended the agreement until February 2009.
The cleaning process takes around three hours, as key components, including the oven door, interior panels, shelves and fan, are all dismantled and cleaned with non-caustic products. The equipment is then reassembled, with the oven, hob and exterior all left in immaculate condition.
Richard said: “The uptake of the service has been building steadily throughout the past few years and now more than 60 per cent of my business comes from repeat customers and their recommendations to family and friends.
“Working as my own boss it has been great to see the progress that the business has made and I am being kept very busy at the moment, cleaning at least a dozen ovens every week.
“I always saw the Ovenu franchise as a long-term investment and with this level of popularity I will definitely be looking towards expanding the business in the near future.”
