In 1954, Jim McLamore and David Edgerton opened their first BURGER KING® restaurant and three years later unwrapped the sandwich that would become an instant sensation, the Original WHOPPER® sandwich.

In the years that followed, BURGER KING® restaurants opened across the United States. And in 1963, our first international restaurant opened in Puerto Rico. SITE SELECTION
Our goal isn’t to put restaurants everywhere. Our goal is to put them where we think they will succeed. Our development team uses the best tools available to help you choose a site with the highest possible potential. Using state-of-the-art geographic information mapping systems (GIS), market analysis and site evaluation techniques, we gather the valuable data needed for proper site selection. When we throw your knowledge of the local community into the mix, you are fully armed with all the tools to select a site that meets your specific needs.
TRAINING
There’s much more to operating a successful BURGER KING® restaurant than building a great hamburger. The BURGER KING® training program is a combination of both “on- and off-the-job” training and is designed to set you up for success. Our franchisee training will provide you with the skills to build a successful business in today’s competitive marketplace. We offer 70+ days of initial training that covers a broad range of technical and managerial skills. You can add courses for you and your team to further your experience and help you round out your business and operational knowledge.

APPLICATION
We have developed a simple, step-by-step approach to managing our franchise application process. This means you will know exactly what stage you’re in and what’s in store for you.
When a Franchise agreement is concluded a single fee of $40,000 per restaurant is payable. The term of the agreement is 20 years. Additionally the franchisee pays 5% of total sales, minus VAT, in the form of a royalty contribution, and an additional 5% of total sales, minus VAT, as a contribution to the national marketing fund.
If you would like to apply for a BURGER KING® franchise then you need to be able to answer yes to the following 5 questions
1) Have you made a decision to become self-employed, or are you or the company you represent ready to invest in another business?
2) Depending on the type of restaurant and the investment model, the total amount invested by a franchisee can be between £150,000 and £750,000 (not including the cost of land in a free standing location or the $40,000 franchise fee). The franchisee will need to contribute at least 30% of the capital with the rest being funded by business loans. Therefore in an average drive through investment of circa £450k, a franchisee must contribute a minimum of £135k as equity in the form of liquid or quickly realisable assets. Do you have the funding available?
3) Can you make a decision about the BURGER KING® franchise opportunity within 90 days?
4) Are you willing to locate within an area recommended by the BURGER KING® market development plan?
5) Do you want to learn more about the industry and the concept, how the franchise operates, and how a franchisee will make money in the business?

INTERVIEWS
Following a successful telephone interview you will be invited to meet with a member of the BURGER KING® development team so you can get to know our brand and we can get to know you.
Our team will consist of field members from the geographic location that interests you, as well as senior-level Burger King Ltd executives. These meetings are your opportunity to learn everything you’ve ever wanted to know about BURGER KING® and the franchise industry. And don’t be afraid to ask the tough questions. We want to address them up front, because this is where we determine your fit in our family and you decide if you want to be part of our family.
DEVELOPMENT
Our developmental procedures consist of a thorough analysis of all trade areas in the market. The goal is to find geographies that are underserved by BURGER KING® restaurants. We then provide you with a search area to help find the best site in that particular market. Rest assured that Burger King Corporation has many years of experience at helping franchisees find and secure great sites. We’re ready to do the same for you. Once you have your site, our construction team helps you design and build the facility to meet your needs and make the most of your investment
