Oven valeting subcontractor becomes franchisee

Posted on: 18/04/2008

For Ovenu franchisee Colin Ward from Wokingham, the idea of becoming his own boss and flexible working hours was very appealing.

After gaining a year’s experience as a subcontractor on a successful Ovenu operation in his local area, he is now launching his own business and plans to grow and develop a customer base in the region.

The subcontracting route followed by Colin firmly cemented his decision to purchase a franchise and allowed him to judge the market and the potential it held. As with most franchise opportunities, a level of initial investment is required and subcontracting can not only be a way to gain valuable experience, but to invest with confidence.

Colin, who previously working as a courier,  joined successful Ovenu franchisee Adam Penniston a year ago, to help meet the growing demand from local householders in his territory for the professional oven valeting service.

Working closely with Adam, Colin was able to attend appointments in the area, help develop market support and learn the processes and demands of the service. With this invaluable firsthand experience, Colin now plans to take advantage of an opening in the region, to build his own business.

Colin says: “The experience I have gained over the last year has given me a great platform from which I can start my business. I’ve had an insight into the opportunities that an Ovenu franchise creates and know that my new venture has so much potential for growth. I am thoroughly looking forward to developing it.

“Operating Ovenu will allow me to be my own boss, but with the support and experience of an established and respected business. Working with Ovenu, I feel confident that I’ll be able to build a strong reputation in the area I shall be serving and develop a successful business.”

Rik Hellewell, Managing Director of Ovenu said: “Colin’s journey shows the benefit that subcontracting can have as a route to franchise. The experience of working alongside a successful operation is great preparation. Colin is starting out with confidence and enthusiasm, and he’s in a strong position having a year’s experience under his belt.

“Colin is very motivated and there’s great potential for him to grow his business.  He is a welcome addition to the Ovenu team and we will be supporting him throughout his time as a franchisee.”

Colin plans to build up his own business, initially working alone, but with the aim of employing another member of staff in the future.

Since the original Ovenu franchise was set up 12 years’ ago, Ovenu’s UK-wide network of more than 100 franchisees have cleaned more than one million ovens, microwaves, and barbeques. The franchise model has been replicated in Europe, Australia and the United States.
