Round Table Pizza Franchise Employees Give To Communities
Posted on: 19/12/2006
Staying true to its commitment to bring families closer together, Round Table Pizza franchise is taking large strides to reach families in its communities.
Combining the needs of the families in the communities in which it operates and its employees' commitment to support their communities, Round Table Pizza has implemented a program that effectively contributes two days of community service a year for each of its corporate employees and restaurant managers.
In exploring ways to increase its support of families in the communities it serves, Round Table learned that its employees wished they had more time to volunteer in their communities. However, Round Table employees, as with many families today, found it difficult to volunteer meaningful time given the demands of their jobs, families, school, and other significant commitments in their lives. In order to further both the company's and it's employees' commitment to their communities, Round Table is providing all corporate employees and restaurant managers two paid days for volunteer work in their communities.
In an effort to support and facilitate its commitment to community service, Round Table has partnered with Habitat for Humanity and with local food banks to develop community service days for its employees. Led by Round Table's President and Chief Operating Officer, Rob McCourt, employees braved the 106 degree heat over the summer to help build houses with Habitat for Humanity in Antioch, CA.
In an email to the entire company, McCourt stated that "caring for families in need is both a personal and a corporate responsibility ... We are fortunate people, working within a fortunate business, and have an opportunity to really give back to the community." In September, Round Table partnered with Loaves and Fishes, a food bank in Sacramento, California, to provide a pizza lunch to 500 regular visitors to the food bank. Round Table employees will continue their volunteer efforts with Habitat for Humanity in Sacramento, CA in late October.
Sara Suva, an employee at Round Table's corporate office, volunteered a day building homes in Antioch with Habitat for Humanity. A sign at the worksite greeted all volunteers with the following message: "Building on Faith." This prompted Sara to write the following about her volunteer experience: "At the end of the day, people had some sore muscles, a little too much sun and some bruises that weren't there before. But just being able to help participate in the creation of houses for four families was all worth it. We were not just "Building on Faith" but all building with love, hope and a sense of community." Round Table's community service program enables all of its restaurant managers and corporate employees to build that sense of community in each of their own communities.
One advantage of Round Table's community service program is that it allows eligible employees to choose their own means of participation. Many have volunteered in the efforts organized by the company with Habitat for Humanity and local food banks. Others have chosen a cause to which they are personally dedicated. Some of Round Table's restaurant managers have organized their own volunteer efforts to support particular missions that resonate with their group.
Round Table managers in Portland, Oregon took a day in September to raise money in the Walk for Autism in Portland. In November, Round Table managers in the Fresno, California area will be volunteering their time to support the Angel Tree Gift Drive in their community. Also in November, Round Table managers in Southern California will take the day off to help raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association in its annual Stride and Ride.
In furtherance of its commitment to support families in its communities, Round Table also established Round Table Family Charities, a non-profit corporation that provides support to organizations that aid families in crisis. The charity organization's focus is three-pronged, supporting participation in the areas of family health, family security and feeding families.
In the area of family health, Round Table Family Charities will benefit groups aligned with helping children who have medical challenges and their families. Within family security, the group will support organizations that ensure families are secure with a roof over their head. Finally, within the realm of feeding families, Round Table Family Charities will work with organizations that provide food to families less fortunate.
Round Table's Rob McCourt reflected on the employee response upon his announcement of the Round Table Family Charities program to the company, "I was overcome by the responses I received. The desire to give time and monies is phenomenal. The warmth, caring and generosity of employees really resonates with me, and is reflective of company values we can all be proud of."
On October 24, Round Table Family Charities will host its first annual Golf Tournament, Dinner and Auction at the Blackhawk Country Club in Danville, California. The event will benefit Children's Miracle Network, a not-for- profit organization that raises funds for 175 affiliated children's hospitals. All monies will be applied directly to the treatment of diseases and injuries affecting millions of children.
