Mushkin Spearhead Franchise Development

J. Marc Mushkin, CFE, a 27-year-restaurant concept and franchise development veteran, has been promoted to vice president of franchising for Sagittarius Brands for both their Captain D’s Seafood Kitchens and Del Taco Restaurants.
Ronald Petty, president of development for Sagittarius, announced the promotion. Mushkin, a native of New York and long-time resident of California, joined El Torito Restaurants of Cypress, CA in 1979 and spent the next 22-years with that organization, under several owners, serving in a variety of capacities including operations, non-traditional sales, catering and restaurant concept and franchise development including director of international operations and vice president of international franchising.
He joined the Del Taco organization in 2004, following two years in his own consulting practice, representing a number of brands both domestically and internationally. Mushkin was senior director of franchise sales for Del Taco prior to this promotion.
Mushkin joins the Sagittarius Brands team, which acquired Captain D’s Seafood Kitchens in 2004 and then acquired Del Taco in 2006. Sagittarius is led by Sid Feltenstein, chairman, and Ron Powell, president, experienced restaurant operators who have developed a variety of concepts including A&W Restaurants, Long John Silver’s Restaurants, Burger King and others.
Mushkin will maintain Sagittarius offices in Lake Forest, CA and Nashville, TN. Founded in 1969, Captain D’s offers its signature dish of hand-cut and hand-battered fried fish along with baked or broiled fish, shrimp, chicken and home-style dishes. Del Taco was founded in 1964 and operates or franchises more than 480 restaurants in 13 states. Del Taco offers a full range of made-to-order Mexican items such as tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and American favourites including cooked-to-order burgers, fries and shakes. Del Taco uses fresh ingredients including hand-made salsa, fresh produce, freshly grated cheddar cheese, chicken grilled every hour and lard-free beans made from scratch.
