Rumbi Island Grill Franchise Loves Animals
Posted on: 20/11/2006
Rumbi Island Grill, the industry leader in tropical fast-casual dining, will be hosting the second "Animal Lovers' Luau" fundraiser to benefit the Longmont Humane Society (LHS). The fundraiser will take place at the Longmont Rumbi Island Grill on Nov. 14, 2006 from 11 a.m. - 9 p.m.
Rumbi Island Grill will be donating 50 percent of all proceeds from the day's sales, both dine-in and take-out, to LHS. In keeping with the restaurant festivities, "Happy Island Pets" sporting Hawaiian leis will greet customers at Rumbi Island Grill's entrance (weather permitting).
The event marks the second time Rumbi Island Grill has donated proceeds to LHS. More than a decade ago, Craig Held, Rumbi Island Grill's only Colorado franchise partner and a local businessman, adopted his beloved cat "Charcoal" from LHS. Held has continued to support LHS and its dedication to the protection and adoption of animals through his and his family's personal donations, and he's now boosting that effort once again via the second Rumbi Island Grill fundraiser.
"We're greatly appreciative of the support Craig has provided to LHS throughout the years," said Michael Helmstetter, development director for the Longmont Humane Society. "The first 'Animal Lovers' Luau' fundraiser was such a tremendous success -- raising $2,500 for our organization -- and we're all looking forward to enjoying another great meal at Rumbi Island Grill where customers can once again support the care and protection of homeless animals at LHS."
Rumbi Island Grill's Longmont location is 2345 Clover Basin Drive, on the rapidly expanding southwest corner of Longmont. Local residents call the spot "Restaurant Row," where Rumbi Island Grill is located alongside such eateries as Red Robin, the Texas Roadhouse, Q-doba, and Einstein Bros. Bakery.
Gourmet rice bowls, island-inspired crisp salads, soups and sides like home-made chips and salsa or new menu items like the Luau Pork sandwich, round out the lunch and dinner selections. Earlier this year, the restaurant introduced a new Luau Pork sandwich and Luau Pork Plate made with slow-roasted, pulled Kalua pork marinated in Hawaiian sea salt served island style with Kahuku BBQ sauce.
Freshness and healthy ingredients are the key to Rumbi Island Grill's fare. Vegetables and fruits are hand-cut and vegetables are lightly sauteed; three kinds of rice are available: white, brown or Rumbi Island Grill rice with coconut milk and red beans; premium meats, fish and poultry are all char-broiled; salad dressings are made on-site. Diners can choose table service or take out.
Rumbi Island Grill has quickly become an industry leader in tropical fast-casual dining. Opened in 2000 near downtown Salt Lake City, there are now 15 in operation in Utah, Colorado and Arizona. Rumbi Island Grill creates the ultimate mealtime getaway by blending authentic fare and warm ambiance with quick, convenient service and an aloha-friendly staff. The menu includes favourites like juicy Jerk Chicken Sandwiches, crisp Calypso Spinach and Voodoo Chicken Salads, flavourful Bali Island Rice Bowls and the tender Volcano-Blackened Mahi. Rumbi Island Grill was created by food entrepreneur Dave Duffin, who was also the founder of Zuka Juice, a quick-service juice bar serving fresh fruit smoothies and healthy snacks.
He grew the Zuka Juice brand to over 100 units, and was named Entrepreneur of the Year in 1999 by Ernst & Young before a successful merger with Jamba Juice. Duffin was selected one of the top "Forty under 40" young entrepreneurs in Utah in 2006 by Utah Business magazine. Rumbi Island Grill garnered "Best of Utah" honours in 2005 and 2006.
Colorado resident Craig Held, a senior-management veteran in the quick-serve restaurant industry, is the exclusive franchise partner of Rumbi Island Grill in Colorado. Held is an experienced food- and hospitality-industry executive and entrepreneur. He boasts more than 20 years in the restaurant business and has held senior positions at several top restaurant companies. Held plans to open six Rumbi Island Grill restaurants in Colorado over the next two years.
Longmont Humane Society is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to the protection of animals. LHS provides temporary shelter to more than 5,000 animals every year: dogs, cats, small mammals, and birds who are lost, abandoned, or surrendered. Loving attention, nutritious food, meticulous health care and daily exercise are standard parts of the high-quality care provided to each animal.
