An affiliate of Sun Capital Partners, Inc. acquires Real Mex Restaurants, Inc.
Sun Capital Partners, Inc. ("Sun Capital"), a leading private investment firm specializing in leveraged buyouts and investments in market-leading companies, today announced that one of its affiliates has acquired Real Mex Restaurants, Inc. ("Real Mex"), the largest operator of Mexican casual dining restaurants in the U.S. with 196 restaurants located in 13 states and 50 franchised locations in the U.S., Middle East, and Japan. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
El Torito: With 69 Company-owned restaurants, El Torito has the largest number of full service Mexican casual dining restaurants in California and enjoys an ~87% brand awareness in California (#1 in Southern California).
El Torito Grill: Founded 20 years ago, the seven El Torito Grills fuse contemporary and native Mexican foods in a modern, sophisticated atmosphere. Chevys: Chevys has a national presence with 69 Company-owned restaurants and 34 franchise restaurants in 12 states. Store decors are ultra-casual with a Mexican roadhouse Cantina feel, with its signature, in-house tortilla maker, known as "El Machino."
Acapulco: Acapulco has 36 Company-owned casual, neighbourhood Mexican restaurants offering generous portions of California-Mexican cuisine at attractive prices.
